  1. For You

From the recording Our Heroes

"For You" was written the night I
found out my Grandfather suffered
a stroke in February 2014 and was
left hospitalized, unable to speak
or walk.

The song is a reflection upon the
time I spent with my Grandfather
throughout my life and some guilt
I felt around how often we saw
each other while living in different
parts of the country.

At the time the song was written,
I was hopeful about my Grandfather's
recovery and the opportunity to spend
more time with him.

As a result, the song follows the story
of a sick man, unable to talker walk,
who has just recovered and his "son,”
excited to see the sick man healthy
again, who vows that the two of them
will see each other more often moving
forward without waiting so long in
between visits.

The "son,” vaguely defined in the lyrics,
is a combination of myself as grandson
and myself put in my father's shoes
as son in an attempt to understand
how I would feel if it was my father
who had a stroke.

Despite putting up a strong fight for
many months, my Grandfather was
unable to recover and passed away
in August 2014.

As I record and publish this song
roughly five years later, "For You"
continues to represent a positive
reflection and celebration of the
time we were fortunate to have
spent together in our lives.
For me, it is a reminder of how
although my Grandfather is not physically
with us anymore, we will never let
go of him in memory.

Lyrics

So good to see you
I wish I could run away with you
And now we're talking
I'm holding you and I won't let go

Let me tell you
You'll never have to wait so long
Oh let me tell you
You'll never have to wait so long

You're up and walking
Right along down the avenue
We're just like children
A simple time and I love you son

Let me tell you
You'll never have to wait so long
Yes let me tell you
You'll never have to wait so long

So good to see you
I wish I could run away with you
And now we're talking
I'm holding you and I won’t let go

I won't let go
No I won't let go
I won’t let go
I won’t let go
